What is a pulsed magnetic field?

It's the production of electrical charges in the body that induces the analgesic and anti-inflammatory action of magnetic fields. They are produced by conduction, by the interaction of the static magnetic field of permanent magnets with the movements of body fluids, including blood (Faraday's law). They can also be produced by induction through rapid variation of a magnetic field applied to the skin using an electric coil.

This rapid northward or southward variation in the magnetic field is known as a pulsed magnetic field. It is an electric current, often square-shaped, that powers the coil to produce the magnetic field. It starts at zero, rises instantaneously to a value of several hundred Gauss, stabilises and then falls back to zero. It does not oscillate around zero like the electro-magnetic field produced by household alternating current, which is harmful.

This rapid variation in the magnetic field produces induced currents in the body. By adjusting the number of pulses per second, we can target different pathologies.

Different frequencies for different conditions

The general principle is that very low frequencies, 1 to 10 Hertz (1 to 10 pulses per second) act on hard tissue, while high frequencies, up to 100 Hertz, act on soft tissue. The frequency is adjusted according to the depth of the tissue. For example, for a slightly plump hip (hard tissue), the frequency is increased to 30 or 40 Hertz, while for an intestine (soft tissue) close to the surface of the skin, the frequency is lowered to 50 or 60 Hertz.

There's no risk of doing it wrong: if the frequency you choose isn't the best, the results will simply be limited.
